Moving Apartments in Buenos Aires
Yesterday I started moving my things from my current apartment here in Palermo to my new apartment in Belgrano. I decided to move so that I could be closer to the coolest wine tastings in Buenos Aires. I am lucky in that I don’t have a lot of stuff here, so it isn’t very difficult to move.
Yesterday I was just moving objects that I wasn’t going to need this week since I am still living in my old apartment until Friday or Saturday. I put some things in a couple of duffle bags and than took the subway from the Caranza stop to Jose Jernandez, which is two stops away. On the subway there were people performing music. It was traditional tango music similar to what you might hear in a milonga. A milonga is what you call a traditional place to dance tango. It is not a tango show, such as at café tortoni or Esquina Carlos Gardel, but just a small dance hall where real Argentines go to dance.
Whenever people ask what the best activities in Buenos Aires are I always recommend going to a milonga over a big tango show since it is much more authentic. At the milongas they usually sell Argentine wine such as Malbec, Bonarda, Torrontes, Syrah, and Cabernet. There are quite a few other things to do in Buenos Aires though besides dancing tango. These include eating steak, going to a soccer game, visiting the San Telmo fair, and buying leather jackets. Tourists I meet often ask if soccer games here are safe since they have heard stories of people being injured or attacked at games. I assure them that the expensive tickets they are buying are in a section of the stadium that is very safe and away from the Boca Juniors or River fans that are fanatics.
